Europa League exit was classic Celtic according to Celtic podcaster

Wednesday, March 4th, 2020 1:36pm

By Josh O'Brien @JoshJohnOBrien1

John McGinley of The Grand Auld Podcast has berated Celtic's dismal exit from The Europa League at the last-32 stage at the hands of F.C. Copenhagen.

A 1-1 draw after the first-leg in Denmark meant Celtic were firmly in the tie's driving seat. Yet not even Odsonne Edouard's away goal could save them from a second-leg capitulation as they succumbed to a 3-1 second-leg defeat on their own turf at Celtic Park.

Two goals in the last five minutes for the visitors sent Copenhagen into ecstasy whilst Neil Lennon's men could only stand and watch helplessly as their European campaign collapsed in front of them.

Celtic's misery was compounded by the fact that fierce rivals Rangers progressed through to the next round after they beat Braga in Portugal.

Though the Bhoys lead the Scottish Premiership by twelve points, meaning they look set to record their ninth consecutive title, European success has eluded them for far too long.

John McGinley of The Grand Auld Podcast expressed his disappointment to the Celtic fans show on Love Sport Radio.

"Classic Celtic in Europe unfortunately, and we just seem to have this inherent ability to really mess it up for ourselves when it matters most. And it's something that Celtic fans in Europe have seen a lot over the last few years. [I] spoke about the last week, about not progressing through a knockout tie for over a decade-15 years or so.

"I think it was evident again last Thursday night why we just seem to mess it up for ourselves. It's just that's why it's so difficult for us. I don't quite understand it myself. I think we are a better team than Copenhagen. I don't want to labour that point too much because they did simply beat us but I think it was Celtic's own errors that ultimately undid us on the night and as I say it's just very, very frustrating."
