The former Hammers midfielder reckons Benitez would be a good appointment
West Ham fans had high expectations for their team this season. An expensively assembled attack, Manuel Lanzini returning from injury and club player of the year Fabianski in net all pointed towards a successful campaign.
But fast forward a few months and Fabianksi is injured, his deputy is throwing balls into his own net, new signings Haller and Fornals aren't firing, and manager Manuel Pellegrini's job is under threat with the side 16th in the table.
Speaking to Love Sport Radio, former West Ham midfielder John Moncur said that the results this season simply haven't been good enough.
"From a West Ham point of view, you take last year and Pellegrini spent an awful lot of money. He was slowly building and it's a work in progress, but this year we felt like we could be pushing for Europe".
"We started really well, but it hasn't continued. The last month or so, so much is going against us from a performance point of view and the results have slipped".
"The goalkeeping has been a huge disappointment. It's not a position where you can get away with it, and that's hurt us big time. It's running through the back four - there's uncertainty with positioning, and no confidence".
Moncur said that if the poor shot stopping and even worse results end up costing Pellegrini his job, then Rafa Benitez could be a good replacement.
"Rafa has a good record. He's done fantastically at a top club in Liverpool, and did great things at a sleeping giant in Newcastle. They're a similar club to West Ham, and I think it probably would be a good fit".
"We've got a lot of foreign players and he'd do well with the squad we've got - it's arguably the best squad we've ever had at West Ham. It's just a case of making things click".
