Former Watford stopper Richard Lee is backing the Sheffield United man to play for his country
Dean Henderson's rise has been meteoric. Just a few years ago, he was a highly rated young goalkeeper waiting in the shadows at Manchester United. Fast forward to January 2020, and he's one of the most highly rated stoppers in the Premier League on loan at Sheffield United- and he's being touted for an England place.
Jordan Pickford was a hero of England's wonderful run in the 2018 World Cup, but he hasn't had the best season for Everton - and calls are growing for him to lose his place.
Speaking to The Posh Boys on Love Sport Drive, every weekday from 3-7 PM, former Premier League goalkeeper Richard Lee said that it's time for Dean Henderson to be given a chance for his country.
"I think Henderson is ready. Certainly based on this season, Jordan Pickford isn't having the best year of his career, and he'd be the first to admit that. He's had one of those seasons where he's been caught out a few times, and Everton haven't been great either.
"Then you look at Dean Henderson, and he's been in brilliant form. Although he's not technically perfect - there are still a few flaws in his game and he does make errors - I think he's mentally the strongest keeper available to Gareth Southgate. The age that he's at, he'll end up playing a lot of games for England and I think he'll be putting the pressure on this summer".
"He's a big game goalkeeper - you know you can rely on him to stand up and have a calm head when the chips are down. Henderson wouldn't crack under pressure. You wouldn't necessarily have the same confidence about Pickford."
